LMS: Learning management system digital management system. Digital items to get them. So you don't have to hunt for anything. "Market Place"-Blend other sites into one place such as Khan Academy
We still have Connected TEch. We can assess both learning.com and Connected Tech
We have 2 Technology online books.

Username: the beginning of your email
If you forgot your password, click " Forgot Password?" They will send you a new password.

Before getting started:
  • Technology department will upload student info each year
  • Students and teachers can access it from home.
  • 5th grade can take a technology pre-assessment then teacher can create a learning plan
  • Bulk Updates: Remove students from classes to get rid of students that were in previous classes.
  • If you don't see Teacher view in Safari: Check your pop up blocker. Go to Safari and deselect Pop Up Blocker.
    • Firefox-Preferences-deselect Pop Up Blocker
  • Didn't seem to be issues in FireFox


K-5 Aha! Math is included in this bundle.
Provides engaging and motivating supplemental K-5 curriculum that builds students' foundational skills for math success. Fully aligned to state and Common Core standards, Aha!Math supports teachers with multiple models of instruction, and the data to make informed decisions.
  • Lessons can be interactive on white board.
  • Assign lessons to students
  • Very little in Spanish
  • Use this as an introduction to math or give it to students ---Good for flipped.jpg
  • Supplemental content
  • Not in Spanish...awww man!
  • Assign individual assignments for kids
    • Students will be checked for understanding
    • They will get a grade for assignment-teacher will see in gradebook
  • There are some games. Game gets progressively harder
  • There are quizzes to check for understanding

Aha! Science is included in the bundle.
  • Much of what is in the Aha! Math bundle
  • None in Spanish. :-(

Individual Content:
  • teacher can add an individual lesson for a student
    • Exm: I want a student to work on a multiplication. I can assign multiplication lesson for that student.

  • For the STAAR test
    • Review questions that TEA has provided and created some questions
    • Robust
    • Give to students and it will be self graded
    • Students can go back and return to the question, if they want to change it. It will show the student what they had selected. Then make change.
    • Turn in Test when COMPLETELY finished!
    • Students can come back and work on it AS LONG AS they don't "turn in Test". Make sure they press the X so that they can return to it at altar time.
    • Make sure that you assign a STAAR assessment with a start and end date. Can also include a time frame (8:00am-3:30)
    • Select Randomize the Questions
    • Look at scores: Click on Prescribe Curriculum (60% or less for prescribed lessons)
      • Can't see exactly what the student scored on each question (bummer)
    • Make curriculum inactive during daily time window-Makes a student take the test before going to anything else.


Students can...
  • Customize their page with a picture and background
  • Students click on Assignements to see what has been created.
  • Students can see the score they received (on the right)
  • If student only gets half way through, the lesson is bookmarked, it is retained. It will ask if you want to continue or restart. (Nice feature!(
  • Receive content in Spanish! Yes, all the content is in Spanish. The interactive portions!
  • Receive math and science instruction

Teachers:
Allows you to differentiate instruction
Can be in teacher window and show the lesson (View button) prior to assigning the lesson.

J=Journal (send out an assignment and they can send it back to you)

A=Activity (like a worksheet) Student can't give it back. Static worksheet.

Enable Student Apps (Science Glossary/Typing Pal) You can add these to the student pages.

Getting Started:
Create a Class
Click on +DeskScreen shot 2012-07-09 at 3.32.35 PM.png icon on the left or at the top.
  • Name your class
  • New window opens up to add information and criteria.
  • STUDENTS and PARENTS CAN SEE THE DESCRIPTION box that you type. BE SENSITIVE!
  • You can either select Lesson Certificate: Printable/View Only/None. Most people use View only: Positive reinforcement! :-)
  • Student Tracking: Yes (If you select NO, it becomes a generic class. You would have every student use the same password.
  • You can set a minimum score.
  • Be sure to Click SAVE

Add Students:

Select Grade level
Either Enroll each student or put a check mark next to the student name.
Be sure to click Enroll selected.

PRINT LOG in Cards is a tab you might want to print
This will generate a card for their log in and password. You can print and laminate for each student.
Log in NOT case sensitive, password is case sensitive.

Subgroups/Additional Classes:
Because, there are so many lessons that will just be listed down the page, students might be overwhelmed be the list, you can create other classes for the content.
This will be visually better for students so it is not overwhelming with all the assignments.
You can assign students classes...such as Math, Science, Keyboarding, Digital Citizenship...
RTI group.
Students will see the list on the main page.

Click on Add Course Group

Add a Group name

Enroll Students
Add curriculum (see below)

Create an Item:

Scroll to the bottom
Drag and drop it to your favorites bar to have on hand at any time.

Go to a site and then click on the bookmark to add it as a link.

Go back to My Curriculum - Create an Item
Select Journal - Next
Give it a name
Journal Description
Put a grade
Deselect Share this Content

Embed a video in your journal assignment
Go to the video
Find the word SHARE
Click on Embed Code
Copy Embed Code
Back to site
Change page to html at the bottom.
Click enter
Paste in html code for video
Back to Design

Response Template Tab is where students write answers.
You can add questions here. Students can erase so be careful. You might want to add them to the Prompt so they can go back and see questions IF they accidentally delete the questions.
Save
Journal will show up in Items Created

Add links

Double secret key stroke! Shhh! HOLD control shift tilde click on easy in top left corner. This will allow you to fast forward. It will show you a fast forward button.
DO NOT SHOW the kids. Do the same to get rid of it!

Teacher adds the directions. Top left. A student can chat with you in the Comments section. It will send you a notification about a comment being sent.

Student can then answer questions. Add an attachment. Insert graphics. They can save it and then come back to answer if they aren't finished answering.
Caution: Once it is Turned in...it can't be changed. You can see it, but can't change it.
A teacher can go back and open it up for a student.

Only in your account or share within the district.
Or you can share the lesson throughout the Learning.com universe!
How do you find the content?
Type in key word in the search feature: volcano (click search)
Be sure to preview lessons created by other teachers before assigning!
Blue icon means created by Learning.com
Green icon means created by a teacher.
Blue world icon means Discovery Education
You will get a Skysso (sso-single sign on) login: Student and teacher can access Discovery Education.
From now on I will not have to do the SKysso. Once you have done it once, it will always allow you to access it.
